Southern Motion was founded in 1996 in Tupelo, Mississippi, by Guy Lipscomb and Larry Todd, who serve as the company’s President and Executive Vice President, respectively. Guy leads the company in financial and marketing arenas. Larry heads production, supported by an industry-wide reputation for manufacturing and operational excellence. The two founders have more than 70 combined years of furniture experience to their credit.

The idea was simple: manufacture only reclining furniture, and make it better than anyone ever had. All they needed was a name. One day while Guy and his wife, Sandy, were shopping, they stumbled across a painting entitled “Southern Motion” by a Birmingham artist. This painting served not only as the inspiration for new company’s name, it also embodied the spirit of the product to the manufactured—relaxed and comfortable furniture.
